TASMANIA

There are some fascinating old cemeteries in Tasmania which deserve a look even if they may not have Irish related graves. One of these is

This plaque has been placed by his proud descendants.

O'MEAGHER Henry Emmet Fitzgerald 

infant son of Thomas Francis and Catherine Meagher nee Bennett

Aged 4 months

* NOTE:  This is unusual in that the original headstone has been replaced.  Also the wording has been changed.
"Thomas Francis (Meagher)  Irish Exile to Y.D.I." You can read his biography here

St John’s Catholic Church (1837) and burial ground is the oldest Catholic church still in use in Australia. The church has had three spires. The present one was raised in 1972.
